Meta to limit the control on where their advertisers appear across their platforms

If you’ve built campaigns in Meta Ads over the last couple of years, you’ve no doubt come across numerous pop-up boxes that suggest you to opt-in with enticements such as “get 10% high clickthrough rate by adding AI-generated images” or “get 17% higher clickthrough rate with Advantage+ creative translation” or a slew of others across the campaign, ad set, and creative set up screens in the UI.
For many advertisers, these features are a benefit and help drive performance and it’s generally a good idea to test them and judge performance. For some advertisers, opting out is necessary to ensure creative integrity, that incorrect AI-generated information doesn’t work its way into the copy, or that the ads themselves only appear in suitable placements – however the advertiser defines that.
Advertisers may soon lose the placement-level control in that last scenario. Recently an announcement has appeared in the UI indicating that placement/platform exclusions will no longer be available at the ad set level and will instead be controllable only via placement value rules and account-level exclusions.
While we have yet to see how this rolls out and how manageable the controls are, now is a good time to evaluate your Meta placement strategies. Maybe you avoid showing up on Threads entirely. Perhaps you untick the boxes for Audience Network. Consider whether these or other exclusions are still right for your account heading into 2027. If they are, consider an account level exclusion. Otherwise, lean into the opportunity to find additional value across placements and be prepared to manage performance with bid modifiers based on performance. And as always, make sure creative is designed for where it will ultimately be delivered.
